Katherine & Kazdan's Story:

8 years. 8 long years of pain, tears and asking “why can’t it be me?”

My husband and I started trying to conceive before we were married. Having a family is something we both knew we always wanted. After about 2 years of TTC, we went to get checked out. We weren’t sure what was going on and wanted to make sure everything was okay.

All the tests came back normal. She put me on Clomid in hopes that it would help, but it didn't. After a while, she sent a recommendation to a local fertility specialist. He ran his own tests and reviewed our prior testing, telling us that everything looked great and that we should have had about five kids by now. That was not reassuring at all!

He recommended timed intercourse with a trigger shot. We did that a few times, and again, no dice. He said that he thinks we have a good chance at a successful IUI, so my husband and I agreed to give it a shot. Well, another failure.

My husband and I had a conversation and decided that we had to stop treatments. We simply didn’t have the funds to proceed, and nothing was working; nobody could give us any real answers.

Years later, my husband and I had a conversation about starting to try again. I was informed of CNY and how they have lower costs. My husband and I looked over everything and decided to get a consult.

We live in Ohio, and the closest branch to us is CNY Buffalo. We have friends who own a home about an hour away from the Buffalo location, so we did local monitoring and stayed at our friends’ house the nights before retrieval and transfer.

When I went for my retrieval, I felt awful! I was so bloated it hurt to sit, walk or stand. I mentioned this pain to the nurse, and she asked me just a couple of questions and was able to tell me that I very likely had PCOS. It was later confirmed by our doctor.

It was incredible to me that, after all these years and two questions later, a nurse at CNY was able to figure out what was wrong! I knew in that moment that we were in the BEST hands possible!

They retrieved 21 eggs, 14 were mature, and we ended up with 10 embryos. We did not do any testing on the embryos. Because I had PCOS, it was in our best interest to freeze and transfer at a later date, so that’s what we did.

We told Dr. Chang that we just wanted him to pick the best embryo for the transfer. He picked one of our excellent graded embryos, and we did one intralipid infusion. The transfer was a success! We later found out that the transferred embryo was a little girl, and we were thrilled!

The Moment:

The moment I found out I was pregnant was about 5 days after transfer. I was ecstatic but I still couldn’t believe it. I tested twice a day for about 2 weeks to make sure the line kept getting darker.

When they did the blood test and confirmed pregnancy I just felt so much love and gratitude. My husband and I both were so excited and couldn’t believe that it was finally our time!

My pregnancy flew by but there were a couple complications that I had to face. She was breech so we had to schedule a C Section. She was born on 12/30/2024 at 12:36pm.

I was terrified but the second I heard her cry I knew she was going to be okay. When I saw her face I knew that all the needles, challenges and prior heartbreak was completely worth it! Once they placed her in my arms, I just started sobbing. She is our world! Thank you so much to the staff at CNY for everything you guys do!

Hope, Inspiration and Advice:

One thing that I believe helped us, is that both my husband and I, started to manifest her before we even started treatment. There was no “if”, it was always “when”. I also treated my body the way I would need to when I was pregnant. I gave up alcohol and nicotine months before our consult.
