Alisha's Story:
I met my husband in 2019 and after a couple years we decided to start trying to get pregnant because I was getting older. We tried for a year with no success. I have two previous children from my first marriage, so I was confused why I was struggling. So, we sought advice from the doctor, did all the testing, and nothing seemed off besides the fact that I have Graves' disease, but it's under control.
So they suggested doing timed intercourse with medication, and that didn't work, and I also got an HSG done to make sure everything looked good, which it did, so they suggested we look into meeting with a fertility doctor.
We reached out to a fertility clinic near us, and we couldn't believe how expensive it was; we thought we couldn't afford this.
Someone in a group suggested I look into CNY Fertility. We did some research and had a consultation. We started right away. I drove out to the Colorado Springs location and stayed for my first cycle.
We did our first egg retrieval. We got seven eggs, and four ended up being good. We then froze them and came out the next month for a transfer. We transferred two embryos, but they failed.
We were devastated, then we proceeded to do two more transfers after that, and both failed. We were stunned and lost. It was suggested that I have a laparoscopy to make sure I didn't have endometriosis, so I did the surgery, and it came back clear.
Again, we were confused about what was happening. I should be able to have children again. So, we set up for another egg retrieval, and I ended up with only three eggs. Out of those, we only got 1 embryo.
We transferred and it took, but at our second Beta, the number dropped and dropped, and we lost it. So we had to decide whether to continue. This was in the third year of IVF.
We decided to try one more time and do back-to-back egg retrievals. We changed our protocol, and in the first egg retrieval, I got five eggs, and in the second one, we got 6. We had nine eggs on ice.
We waited a few months and then started our transfers. Our first transfer, we decided to try to transfer two again, and go from there.
My first beta came and I got the call that it was 249, I was ecstatic, but still so nervous from the last time. Beta after beta, it continued to rise and rise.
We went to our 5-week ultrasound and found out we were having twins! That feeling was something you can't explain. Fast forward 10 months, and we now have two beautiful girls, Kennedi and Olivia, perfect healthy babies, all thanks to CNY.
At times, I thought I couldn't do it anymore, but we continued to move forward in hopes of this outcome, and it happened.
Favorite Team Member at CNY:
I have to say Dr. Kiltz was there to answer every call when I had a question or needed insight. He's a wonderful doctor.
Helpful resources Alisha found:
I think the thing that helped me get through it was Facebook groups with other women that are going through the same thing. They knew what I was going through and could help with questions and insights.
The Moment:
That moment I got the call with my first beta I was nervous more than anything because of my last beta, she said it was positive and 249. My heart opened. This is good, this is a good number, I cried. Then the number continued to grow and grow. Our first ultrasound when we first saw our two girls in there, my heart just filled up, this was it, it worked.
Hope, Inspiration and Advice:
Starting this journey we didn't know what we were in for. I thought it was going to be one and done, but it wasn't until 4 egg retrievals and 5 transfers later. There were lots of tears and heartache, but I wouldn't take any of it back. At times I didn't think I could continue, but we did. My husband was right by my side through the whole thing. To anyone thinking this is easy, think again. It can test you in ways you never knew. But it's all worth it.
