Nicole & Jonathan's Story:

My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been together for 15 years. We got married in 2018, and with both of us being teachers, we always knew we wanted children.

We started trying for a baby in the summer of 2022. After about 6 months with no luck, I went to my OBGYN because I suspected I had PCOS. My OBGYN performed an ultrasound and found I did, in fact, have all the telling signs of PCOS.

I could not be put on Metformin because I have Chron’s Disease, so my OBGYN recommended I try taking Mayo-Inositol Powder to help with my PCOS, and it did indeed bring back my cycles. We ended up conceiving a few months later, but it unfortunately ended in a chemical pregnancy.

Now we were almost at the year mark of trying to conceive, so we decided to book a consult with CNY Fertility Syracuse. We started with 3 IUIs. The first round was unsuccessful, the second round resulted in a chemical pregnancy and the third round was unsuccessful.

This is when we decided that IVF would be our best option. My egg retrieval was in December of 2023. We retrieved 36 eggs, and 9 of them made it to day 5 blastocysts.

We did a frozen embryo transfer in January of 2024 that worked! We were over the moon. Until a couple of weeks later, at our first ultrasound, they could not find a gestational sac. We were devastated to find out that this was an Ectopic Pregnancy.

I had to get three rounds of a Methotrexate shot to treat the Ectopic. Then I had to go in weekly to get blood drawn to track my HCG level back down to zero. My HCG took five long months to drop back to negative. This really put a halt on our journey.

In October of 2024, we decided to try another frozen embryo transfer. We got the call that my HCG was positive a week later, but held our breaths until the first ultrasound.

A couple weeks later, we had that first ultrasound and were overjoyed to see a gestational sac this time! We stayed cautious, but optimistic. Weeks went on and we had great ultrasound results each week. Baby was healthy and thriving! We graduated from CNY Fertility on Christmas Eve of 2024.

The Moment:

We shared the news with our families around Christmas time and found out we were expecting a baby boy in January of 2025! Our baby boy, Leo was born on July 18th, 2025 and finally holding him in our arms was the best day of our lives!

Hope, Inspiration and Advice:

Our advice to others would be to never lose hope. Everyone’s journey is different and it may take time, but in the end when you know you tried everything you could, it’s so worth it!
