Martina's Story:
We were first loves in high school but went very separate ways after college. We reconnected after almost ten years and immediately got back together. Aaron had two beautiful boys from a previous marriage and we knew we wanted to have kids together.
We started trying immediately after getting married. When it didn’t happen after a while, we got checked out, and Martina was told she has low progesterone and anovulation (doesn’t ovulate regularly).
We tried two medicated cycles and two IUIs, all unsuccessful. We started IVF in January 2024.
Our egg retrieval went great; we ended up with 7 PGT-tested embryos. Our first transfer was in February 2024, and it was successful!
We were so excited. In March, at our “graduation” appointment, one of the CNY ultrasound techs, Lisa, noticed something wasn’t quite right and suggested we schedule another ultrasound with our OB. In early April, that ultrasound unfortunately found no heartbeat. We lost our baby at 11 weeks due to anencephaly, which was devastating.
CNY helped us through all the next steps, medically of course, but also emotionally.
They were so helpful and supportive while we determined our course of action. We tried another frozen transfer in July once we were ready, which was unfortunately unsuccessful.
As hard as that was, we knew we wanted to try again soon and did our third transfer in August, which led to the successful pregnancy and birth of our daughter, Carmela.
Favorite Team Member at CNY:
Amber really felt like family and was amazing to have with us through so much, especially right after our loss.
Dr. Arroyo did both of our successful transfers. We asked for him for our third one. He has an amazing energy and confidence that makes transfer day extra special.

If you connect with a staff member don’t be shy to request them! We loved having our go-to people at CNY.
The Moment:
The most amazing moment of our whole journey was when we first heard our daughter Carmela cry.
It honestly didn’t feel real after so many ups and downs. Being pregnant after loss is full of so much anxiety and fear. Hearing her cry was seriously the best most amazing sound, and then of course seeing her was unbelievable. Seeing and hearing her for that first time made every single part of our journey worth it.
Hope, Inspiration and Advice:
Be patient and understand that there is so much out of your control.
When you finally have your baby you will forget all about every pill, shot, and appointment you have to go through to get there. It's all worth it.
