Kimberly & Al-Akeem's Story:

My name is Kimberly Watson. I am from Gering, Nebraska and i currently live in Scottsbluff. I met the love of my life, Al-Akeem Watson, when I was 18 and married him four years later. We have a beautiful 6 year old, but when I was 23 I was diagnosed with adenomyosis, which is when tissue that normally lines the uterus grows within the uterine walls, this resulted in my hysterectomy. I was able to keep my ovaries and decided to undergo IVF with the use of a gestational surrogate to complete our family. My best friend, Qrishana Pena, volunteered to be my carrier. I traveled with my sister for my egg retrieval in which 47 eggs were retrieved and after everything 17 embryos were frozen. After one embryo and one transfer we found out our gestational carrier was pregnant and I am happy to say she was born June 16th and she is healthy and beautiful. I’m so grateful for CNY and everything they do to help build and complete families.

Unique Moments:

It’s definitely a challenging journey I had several shots to prep for egg retrieval and after I had to go on bed rest because my ovaries were over stimulated and close to rupturing. My carrier was miserable with progesterone shots and is not someone who enjoys being pregnant but did it fully out of the love in our friendship. Financially I worked 20 hr shifts and my husband and I lived apart to save money for this journey . And it’s challenging to have a gestational carrier to have to put your trust completely in someone else and watch them grow your baby.

Hope, Inspiration and Advice:
