Words of Support and Encouragement: Releasing Negative Repetitive Thoughts

Winter-Roses300x451Good morning!  We hope that you had a great weekend.  During last weeks’s Interactive Fertility Support Webinar, Lisa discussed the importance of releasing negative repetitive thoughts.  This is something that can be challenging for everyone, regardless of whether you are currently working through infertility or not.
Negative repetitive thoughts can infiltrate your day, making it challenging to focus on work, your relationships, and taking the necessary steps to move forward.  Once you are stuck in the cycle of these thoughts, it can be very challenging to move beyond them.  However, finding a way out is an important tool for your self care.  Continuously running the negative narrative and reliving what has happened in the past will not change the past, and it will not change what can happen in the future.  You are the only one who feels the impact of these thoughts, they cannot change the world around you.  Stopping this cycle will open space in your mind and heart to welcome in peace, relaxation, acceptance, happiness, and new pathways to your most fertile self.
To work on releasing these negative thoughts, it is important to recognize what they are, and when you experience them.  Do you find they are more common at night before bed?  When you are driving?  When you feel disappointed or self-conscious?  Anticipating when they occur can help you find ways around them.  For example, if you notice these thoughts make it difficult to sleep, try keeping a notebook next to your bed.  When you experience these thoughts and concerns, write them all down.  Moving them from your mind to the paper will help you to feel like you acknowledged them, and did something active.  Write them out a few times, and when you are finished, crumple the paper up or close the book.  You can also keep a notebook with you in your purse or desk for this purpose.
You can also repeat a simple mantra when notice the negativity start to creep into your day.  Repeating “this is only hurting me” or “be kind” can help redirect your thoughts, and place importance on being kind to yourself.
We discuss many coping tools like these at our Circle of Hope support group sessions and virtual support events.  For our complete listing of events, you can visit our CNY Fertility and CNY Healing Arts calendars.
This Wednesday, our Rochester Circle of Hope Support Group will meet from 5:30p-6:30p.
