Daily Inspiration for Fertility

by

The power of positive thought plays an important role in the fertility process and can carry over to all areas of our lives. By becoming more conscious of our thought process, we are then able to become aware of negative thoughts that come to us. When we’re able to recognize those, we can begin to change the way that we think about things. This can lead to better self-awareness and a more peaceful, relaxed state of mind—all of which are conducive to creating a more fertile environment for the baby you’re working toward conceiving.
Stress raises cortisol levels which can directly impact the fertility process in both men and women by affecting hormone production. There can be plenty of challenging emotions while trying to conceive the family that you desire. It’s important to recognize those feelings and not ignore them; however, restructuring those thoughts to positive ones is an important step to creating “calm”.
Dr. Robert Kiltz believes in the power of reading positive, uplifting messages daily. Dr. Kiltz himself begins the day with his own daily intention (to subscribe to these, click here). Sowing these daily seeds of positivity can have a tremendous impact on both the body and mind. Dr. Rob has recently published his book The Art of Intent: 60 Days of Intentions and Inspirations to Transform Your Life. He also offers podcasts based on readings from his book which are available by clicking here. Additionally, www.mindbodysmile.com offers daily words of inspiration and encouraging stories.
Reading Success Stories about others who have been through the fertility process and conceived can be comforting, as well as connecting and sharing with others through CNY Fertility’s many support opportunities.  CNY Healing Arts also offers many services such as yoga, acupuncture, massage, and monthly workshops at their three locations to help empower you on your journey to fertility.

Visualization and Fertility

by

Can you see it now?   It’s something that we say when we’re talking about our dreams and visualizing our future.  Imagery and visualization are such an important part in fulfilling our desires—including the fertility process.  At first it may seem ‘awkward’ because it may be something new and unique, but with practice it becomes second nature and plays an integral part of attracting that which we want to happen.
Often when facing issues with fertility, it’s easy to become frustrated, sad, and even angry.  Feeling those things are completely natural; we are faced with many thoughts each day, and there are definitely some that are more challenging than others!  There’s actually a part of our brain that sorts out our thoughts and either labels it “important or unimportant”, “good or bad”, for survival purposes.  When we receive information, we have to fine-tune it and filter it, so that we can make the most of it.
That’s where meditating and visualizing on what you want versus what you don’t want comes into play.  The law of attraction states that what you think about most is what you attract.  When receiving information that can be ‘challenging’, it’s important to stop and see that positive ‘snapshot’ in your mind of what you desire.  Visualize daily about the family that you would like to have.  Rhonda Byrne, author of The Secret says “the reason visualization is so powerful is because as you create pictures in your mind of seeing yourself with what it is you want, you are generating thoughts and feelings of having it now. Visualization is simply powerfully focused thought in pictures, and it causes equally powerful feelings.”
Taking the time each and every day to ‘see’ and visualize those positive snapshots, and relaxing your mind and body are an important part in overall wellness and fertility.

Fertility and Self-Talk

by

When facing issues with fertility, it is natural to feel discouraged from time to time.  Confronting our feelings is healthy and constructive.  The important thing is how these feelings are processed after our initial reactions and the “self-talk” that occurs within ourselves.
It’s common when we are feeling challenged by something in our lives to take things personally.  The key is to change the way we speak to ourselves.  For example, replacing statements such as “I’m never going to get pregnant” or “I’m infertile” to “I am fertile” or “I am taking the steps to create a healthy pregnancy”.  When you do this, you are constructing a positive internal environment which further helps the fertility process, and banishes those self-limiting beliefs.
Positive self-talk has been proven to have stress management benefits, productivity benefits, as well as health benefits.  When negative self-talk takes place over time, chronic stress can kick in.  Biologically, chronic stress disrupts the functioning of reproductive hormones, and raises cortisol levels which negatively impact the chances of conception.  Stress can also interfere with the success of fertility treatments such as IVF.
When you catch yourself saying something negative to yourself, whether it’s regarding fertility issues or anything else in life, it’s important just to say “STOP!” either out loud or to just to yourself.  Turn it around and replace that thought with a positive one!  It may seem awkward at first, but over time you will become accustomed to making this small, yet important change which has a huge impact on your emotional and physical self – because it’s all connected.
Know that you’re not alone in the process.  Whenever you feel like you need extra help, CNY Fertility Center is always there.  CNY Fertility offers many support groups, webinars, and workshops each month to help you on your journey to success!

Fertility vs Infertility: Focusing on What You Desire

by

Dr. Robert Kiltz, Founder and Director of CNY Fertility Center, believes that the power of positive thinking is the key to life and success—and challenges on the journey to conception are no exception. Dr. Kiltz uses the word “fertility” instead of “infertility” because it affirms this positive belief system.
As Dr. Kiltz shares in his book, The Fertile Secret: Guide to Living a Fertile Life “the mind is the compass for the rest of the body.”  He also believes that with this inner peace comes deep healing which expands to all areas of life.
Changing the inner voice from saying such things as “I’ll never get pregnant” to “I’m preparing my body for a healthy pregnancy” prepares for a relaxed, calm mind; then, as Dr. Rob believes, the body follows suit.  Positive affirmations are helpful in overcoming internal blocks that prevent us from that which we desire in life.  Old thought patterns based on fear and worry are replaced with new ones of love and acceptance.
That’s not to say, however, that feelings shouldn’t be acknowledged or denied.  CNY Fertility offers many areas of support including group support, webinars, and workshops which allow you to express your feelings in a healthy, supportive environment. The Circle of Hope Support Group meets on a monthly basis at each one of their locations:  Syracuse, Rochester, and Albany.
Positive thinking increases the chances of becoming more open to trying things that were not thought of before or actually considered.  “My practice embraces both the newest Western technologies and the oldest Eastern philosophies. It is a formula that has been successful for both my patients and myself”, says Dr. Kiltz.  In addition to receiving fertility treatments there’s additional benefit of adding such things as yoga, massage, acupuncture, and meditation to create a relaxed environment where conception is more likely to occur.

Health Benefits of Optimism

by

*Excerpt from Dr. Robert Greene’s book, PERFECT BALANCE[r1]
Optimists see the glass as half-full, and it stands them in good stead. Between 1962 and 1965, a group of investigators from the Mayo Clinic performed personality testing on nearly five hundred study participants. They recently followed up on them some thirty years after the original test and found not only that the “pessimists” has lower overall scores in terms of their health, but that over the three intervening decades, the “optimists” had about a 50% higher survival rate. Other studies have had similar results. Psychologist Dr. Richard Wiseman, author of The Luck Factor, has shown that the way we assess various situations changes how effectively we accomplish our goals. And a positive outlook wins every time.

A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose by Eckhart Tolle

by

This month, Dr. Kiltz has chosen one of his favorite resources as our Book of the Month.  A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose by Eckhart Tolle is a fantastic way to really change your thought process and outlook on life.  Tolle focuses on changing our approach to each and every moment, by pushing us to stop thinking and start becoming present and aware. Working through the idea that heaven exists within our consciousness, Tolle challenges our inner environment and wants us to create a new personal heaven to enjoy. One important method of releasing our thoughts and becoming present is especially pertinent to those trying to conceive.  Tolle wants us to acknowledge that we have experienced great pain that we often carry around with us.  This pain then inhibits our ability to truly enjoy the moment, and become present to all of the sensations around us – not just those surrounding our recurring pain.  When applied to pain from infertility, this truly could transform our perception of our experiences, and our integration of each new moment.

Modern-Day Miracles by Louise L. Hay

by

Modern-Day Miracles is a fascinating compilation of testimonials, exercises, and positive affirmations.  This is a great book for moments of doubt, and times when we need some extra confidence.  Hearing from many people’s perspectives on the power of positive thinking and affirmations, ignites an interest that there may truly be something to this practice.
Louise L. Hay has created a following of believers, and many of them have miraculous stories to share.  Their stories range from recovering from disease, to healing addictions.  Positive affirmations have a place in the world of fertility, and they may offer a new and hopeful perspective to a cycle.
Here is one of Louise’s activities, taken from page 156:
Your Critical Self

Criticism breaks down the inner spirit but never changes a thing.  Praise builds up the spirit and can bring about positive change.  Write down two ways in which you criticize yourself in the area of love in intimacy.  Perhaps you’re not able to tell people how you feel or what you need.  Maybe you have a fear of commitment, or you tend to attract partners who hurt you.
After each of your perceived faults, think of something you can praise yourself for in this area.

I Love Myself
At the top of your piece of paper or your journal, write:  I love myself; therefore…
Finish this sentence in as many ways as you can.  Read it over daily, and add to it as you think of new things.  If you can work with a partner, do so.  Hold hands and alternate saying, “I love myself; therefore…”  The greatest benefit of doing this exercise is that it is almost impossible to belittle yourself when you say that you love yourself.

April's Journey to Fertility: Week Thirty One

by

Fertility SymbolApril is a CNY Fertility Center patient and has been on her journey to fertility for approximately two and a half years. April will share candid stories and a unique perspective on the fertility challenges many women and couples face.
Week Thirty One: Feel Fabulous
Regardless of where you are in your journey toward fertility, one of the most important goals you can have for yourself is to be happy. Optimism wears thin and consistent enthusiasm for each new cycle is challenging, but happiness exists virtually everywhere, including within ourselves. (I realize this may sound cliché but I encourage you to keep reading.)
My last cycle began on Christmas Day. Although I had been holding out for a Christmas miracle, I quickly realized I needed to accept that was not the case and move forward. I could have spent the day focusing on my disappointment and sadness, but instead I decided to focus on making Christmas memories. We were going to be entertaining, and there really was no time to wallow in self-pity; nor was there a need to. My journey to fertility will eventually end and making the mistake of letting my cycles, doctor appointments or blood tests have such an impact on how I feel is just that – a mistake. There are too many opportunities to make memories for me to constantly focus on my fertility challenges. Read more
