Fertility Tips for the Holiday Season: Acupuncture, Massage, and Self-Care

fertility massageAs we continue to look at Fertility Tips for the Holiday Season, this week we will focus on Acupuncture, Massage, and Self-Care.  Soothing care for the body, will in turn quiet and soothe both the mind and heart.  Similar to our discussion last week on Yoga and Peaceful Movement, practicing self-care for the body is a habit that will not only work to improve your fertility by increasing relaxation and blood flow, but will also give you the peace to confront the emotional challenges of infertility.  During the holidays, taking a break for yourself to enjoy a session with us, or practice self-care at home, will allow you to return to your friends and family with peace and greater energy to enjoy them.
As a firm believer in the benefits of relaxing touch, Dr. Kiltz has included acupuncture and massage in his Fertile Secret protocol to improve fertility and overall health.  While trying to conceive, both of these practices are encouraged, and our practitioners will be happy to create a treatment plan that works for you.
During the holiday season, you can practice daily massage self-care if you have been trained by one of our practitioners during a Fertility Massage session.  You also have many ways to practice peaceful self-care on your own.  During the cold winter months, paying extra attention to your temperature level is an easy way to return some peace and conserve energy.  Take the time to make sure that you are always dressed warmly, and likewise, not overheating.  If you are finding yourself becoming overwhelmed during the fast-paced holidays, give yourself a break and enjoy a nice warm shower or bath.  Dress in your most comfortable and soothing fabrics, and embrace your loved ones.  Recognizing that peaceful and soothing touch can calm and quiet the mind, make an effort to use the resources around you, and give yourself the opportunity to greater enjoy this holiday season.

Conceive shares Fertile Touch excerpt from Dr. Rob Kiltz's book The Fertile Secret

This month Conceive magazine shared another excerpt from Dr. Rob Kiltz’s new book, The Fertile Secret and we would like to share it here with you too.
Fertile Touch Daily Massage:
Make your way to a comfortable, reclined position. Beginning your diaphragmatic three-part breath, bring your hands and awareness to your abdomen. Throughout this practice, maintain the mantra: I love and accept my body. I have all that I need.
Make a heart with your hands by joining your thumbs and fingertips, and place your navel in the center of that heart. For a few breaths, feel the warmth and energy below your hands. Begin to move your hands upwards, and settle them right below your sternum. Slowly moving one behind the other and adding a little pressure, begin to move one hand placed horizontally from your sternum to your pelvis. Immediately follow with your left hand, and then your right, and then left again. Continuing this flowing motion for a few breaths, feel your abdomen relax and let go. Now, return to the heart hand formation, and begin the same slow strokes clockwise around your navel. Maintaining light pressure, continue to surround your navel with love and patience. Inhale, and exhale.
I love and accept myself. I have all that I need.
I love and accept myself. I have all that I need.
Return to flowing one hand at a time from your sternum to pelvis, for a few breaths, and then finally rest both hands nestled around your navel.
You have all that you need. You are perfectly beautiful and beautifully perfect. Your body is working, and will provide you with all that you desire.

Oprah and Arvigo Maya Massage for Fertility

Recently, featured an article titled, “Arvigo Maya Fertility Massage: More than a Belly Rub”. Daphne Oz, daughter of Dr. Mehmet Oz, wrote, “When you first hear that there is something called “Mayan abdominal fertility massage,” I know what you’re thinking: How could a belly rub possibly bolster fertility?”
Just as Daphne was convinced after receiving just one treatment, CNY Fertility clients in Rochester, Latham and Syracuse, NY are also reaping the benefits.
Arvigo Maya Massage is offered at our CNY Fertility & Healing Arts Centers as part of The Fertile Secret™ treatment option protocol. It is a modern adaptation of ancient Mayan healing techniques that adds modern knowledge of anatomy, physiology and herbology. Through noninvasive massage, this technique gently manipulates the muscles and connective tissue that hold the pelvic organs in place. The intention is to reposition the pelvic organs so that any blockages and congestion are removed. When blockages and congestion are resolved, the body can self-regulate, heal and regenerate. In addition, physiologically, there is increased blood flow, the functioning of the lymphatic system and nervous system are optimized, and life creating energy is maximized. Both female and male fertility can be enhanced by applying these massage techniques.
Specifically, Arvigo Maya Massage benefits fertility in the following ways:
1.    Increases blood flow to the reproductive organs
2.    Nourishes follicles with fresh blood supply and oxygen
3.    Helps to break down scar tissue and adhesions
4.    Helps cysts to dissolve
5.    Helps to resolve blockages in the fallopian tubes
6.    Re-aligns uterus, as in the case of a prolapsed or “tilted” uterus
7.    Relieves stress and anxiety, releasing emotional blockages
8.    Improves digestion and absorption of nutrients
9.    Helps to regulate the menstrual cycle (addresses cramps, heavy bleeding, irregular cycles, reduces clotting)
10.    Restores healthy menstrual flow in amenorrhea
11.    Improves, tones and cleanses the uterine lining
12.    Helps to prepare body to carry a healthy pregnancy, a key ingredient in the case of frequent miscarriage
1.    Increases blood flow to the reproductive organs
2.    Regulates enlarged prostate
3.    Improves sperm (count, motility and morphology)
4.    Improves digestion and absorption of nutrients
So just how do our pelvic organs become blocked and/or congested? Arvigo says 90% of women will have a misplaced or tipped uterus at some point in their lives. The causes include difficult labor and delivery with prolonged periods of pushing; poor professional care during pregnancy, labor and delivery; repeated pregnancies close together; falls to the sacrum; a career in aerobics or high impact sports and dancing; wearing high heel shoes; poor alignment of the pelvic bones with the spinal column; chronic muscle spasms around the hips, low back and sacrum; carrying young children on the hip for prolonged periods of time; rape, sexual abuse or incest at any time in life; chronic constipation; running or working on cement surfaces with improper foot support; and errors committed during surgery that cut through uterine ligaments. Any of these can damage, tear or overstretch uterine ligaments, thereby prohibiting them from properly supporting the uterus and causing it to eventually fall down (inferior), backward (retro), forward (antero), or causing it to shift either to the left or right side of the pelvic floor.
When reproductive organs shift out of proper position, they can constrict normal flow of blood, lymph and nerve connections. Just a few extra ounces sitting on delicate blood and lymph vessels can cause havoc throughout the different systems of the body. For women, by gently shifting the uterus back into place, homeostasis (or the natural internal balance of the body) is brought back to the pelvic area and surrounding organs. Toxins are flushed and nutrients that help to tone tissue and balance hormones are restored to normal order. This is essential for conception. Old adhesions from invasive treatments to the pelvic and abdominal area, are diminished gradually and safely when addressed by uterine massage.
For men, the massage also addresses and prevents a congested or swollen prostate by maintaining proper blood supply and fluid drainage, thereby preventing swelling and inflammation.
When to Receive Arvigo Maya Abdominal Massage (ATMAM):
For best results, start ATMAM 90 days before beginning ART and commit to a minimum of one treatment per month from ATMAM practitioner in conjunction with a self-care routine at home. Men can receive ATMAM anytime but women have special considerations depending on the time of the cycle, ART treatments and contraceptives.
Special instructions for women:
Receive ATMAM after period and before ovulation, trigger shot or retrieval. If you are in the process of doing a donor cycle then you can have an abdominal massage anytime before transfer.  In the case where you are taking birth control pills due to cysts, you can receive ATMAM anytime, which may help to resolve your cysts very quickly.

Creating Your Eastern Medical Team

art_lotus_A few months ago I felt a lot of pain on my right side.  It felt like every movement made it worse.  I had an ultrasound done at CNY Fertility and they found a large cyst on my right ovary.  Due to the size of the cyst I had the option to have it aspirated, but I was unsure that an aspiration was exactly what I wanted.  Instead I decided to walk over to CNY Healing Arts ( to try and take care of it a bit more naturally.
I gathered my Eastern Medical team as I call them, and went to work on the cyst.  It started with a TON of fluids, took all of my herbs and vitamins from Heather in Rochester, and a bit of a change in my diet, as my Qi (chi) was off.  I also had a couple acupuncture sessions with Donald (he is wonderful!) and yoga with Kim (she is wonderful too!) both from Syracuse.  While this journey was a bit longer and more intensive than having the cyst drained, it was completely fulfilling and satisfying the moment we did another ultrasound and discovered that the cyst was almost completely gone within two weeks.
I’m happy to say my little experiment worked, and the pain was gone.  It took a bit of work, meditation, and some good attention from my favorite practitioners, but it worked.  This is just one of the many stories out there about the benefits of Eastern Medicine and wisdom. Read more

Benefits of Fertility Massage

The fertility process can become an extremely stressful time for everyone involved, and one of the primary factors is often high stress levels. If you’re undergoing infertility treatments, you may balk at the notion of spending money on anything that does not directly involve eggs and sperm, but give yourself permission to get an occasional massage. The relaxation will serve your body, mind, and spirit well.
Fertility massage is designed to decrease stress and increase the blood flow to the reproductive system. The massage is a combination of cranial decompressions, deep abdominal massage, cleansing of toxins, and foot reflexology.  At CNY Healing Arts we also focus on the structural alignment of your body and pelvic area. The techniques used help with the reduction of adhesions and increase blood circulation and the movement of cerebral spinal fluid.
Another way to think of proper posture of the pelvic area, imagine you are dragging your garden hose across the yard to water your garden, the hose becomes kinked the strong current of water is reduced if you leave the kink the water supply is limited, the garden will not receive enough liquid to grow. Now imagine your left hip is higher than your right, what is happening to your internal organs “compression” limited blood supply and the start of adhesions and dysfunction.
Fertility massage is not intended to replace medical procedures however; it can be done on its own or to compliment medical fertility treatments.
