Water for Fertility: Stay Hydrated!
Water is the most essential nutrient for life. Many of our body’s functions rely on water for proper working order—everything from our temperature control, protection of our nervous system, transportation of nutrients to cells, removal of wastes, as well as helping with conception.
A good rule of thumb is eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. Grab yourself one or two of the handy reusable water bottles to keep in your home and/or workplace. Not only will you be helping the environment by cutting back on plastic waste, you’ll also be protecting your body against the potentially dangerous chemicals that can be found in the plastic bottles. The refillable bottles are easy to carry around, therefore reminding you to drink water consistently throughout the day. Plus, you’ll be saving yourself a bunch of money in the long run!
Here are just some of the many benefits of staying hydrated during the fertility process: cushions and lubricates all tissues and organs in the body, facilitates the delivery of hormones throughout the body, and may be helpful with enhancing follicles. Water also helps to provide better production of cervical mucus. Cervical mucus helps the sperm to reach the egg.
A lack of hydration can cause sluggishness, fatigue, and inability to focus. Even slight dehydration can cause our mood to fluctuate. Since the mind-body connection is so important in fertility, staying positive and keeping our bodies running at optimal level can really have an impact.
Another excellent benefit to drinking water is detoxification. Drinking water helps to flush out built-up wastes due to pollutants in the air, medications, etc. For extra detoxing, try adding a slice of fresh lemon in a glass of water every morning to start your day! This will knock off one glass of water and help get your system moving with a Vitamin C boost!
