Receiving a diagnosis of Cancer is easily one of if not the most frightening and tragic pieces of news one can receive. There are so many thoughts and questions that can be running through your head and one of those may be, “Will I be able to have children after my cancer treatment.” Know that the answer is yes and CNY Fertility will do everything in our power to make sure that is an option for you after you beat your cancer.
We know that your diagnosis has likely brought about the most stressful time in your life and we are here to make your fertility preservation as painless as possible. We work with your oncology team and ensure that your fertility is preserved prior to cancer treatment. Due to the obvious time sensitivity in your cancer and thus fertility preservation treatment, your treatment will be expedited and ensured that your fertility preservation will be completed in the most time-sensitive fashion imaginable.
For men, your fertility can most often be preserved with sperm freezing the very same day you call our office. In fact, we urge you to come to any of our facilities immediately following your diagnosis. We will see any cancer patient on a walk-in basis immediately.
For women, it generally takes 2-3 weeks to preserve your fertility by completing an egg retrieval as we urge women to go through a stimulated cycle so that multiple eggs can be retrieved prior to your treatment. Because embryo preservation has a higher fidelity, we highly recommend you go through an embryo banking cycle if possible rather than an egg banking cycle.
What Happens After My Cancer Treatment?
After your cancer treatment and being cleared for pregnancy, your sperm, eggs, or embryos will be thawed for your use. With frozen eggs and sperm, the chance of you attaining a successful pregnancy is related to your age when you froze your eggs/embryos, not the age of when you use them.
