Casey & James's Story:

My husband and I welcomed our first child in March 2022. We conceived quickly and had a fairly easy, routine pregnancy. We began trying to conceive again in June 2023 and got our first positive test in November. At our first ultrasound, we learned it was a missed miscarriage with no heartbeat. We then experienced two more miscarriages, in March and May.

I contacted CNY in June and scheduled a consultation. We completed all recommended testing, but no cause for the miscarriages was found. We started an IUI cycle in January and got a positive test on our first attempt. At our first ultrasound, we saw a sac and fetal pole. Our second ultrasound showed a very strong heartbeat, and our third revealed two very strong heartbeats. Unfortunately, shortly after graduating from CNY, we learned we had lost one of the twins. The surviving twin was born healthy and is doing wonderfully.

Favorite Team Member at CNY:

All of the nurses were a tremendous help — they constantly reassured me and kept the atmosphere positive and warm. Aisha was always there to draw my blood when no one else could find a vein. I'm a very difficult stick, and she never missed.

The Moment:

Getting our positive blood test results was both a breath of fresh air and a weight on our shoulders. It quickly became a game of milestones — "I just need to make it to then." First it was six weeks, when most of our miscarriages had occurred. Then 13 weeks, just past the first trimester. Then waiting on genetic testing results. Then 20 weeks for the anatomy scan, especially since the genetic testing came back inconclusive. Then 24 weeks for viability. After that, it became a weekly waiting game, hoping everything would continue to be okay.

Hope, Inspiration and Advice:

Don't hesitate to ask for help. CNY was invaluable to us when our own doctor's office refused to run testing or address our questions about why we were experiencing miscarriages.
