Our Dream Finally Came True!

My husband and I started to try to conceive our first child in October of 2007. I went off birth control in September and figured it would be a month or 2 before it happened. Each month passed and it was negative after negative results. We sought out the help of a fertility doctor that was recommended from my OB. We started seeing them the summer of 2008. We did several rounds of Clomid with IUI's and then switched to injectables with IUI's. We did a total of 7 of these cycles and none of them resulted in a positive pregnancy test. I had suggested to my doctor that maybe we should look into the possibility of checking if i had endometriosis. He didn't think I had any of the symptoms and didn't think it was worth looking into. My husband and I then decided it was time for a short break. We went to Italy for 2 weeks in April 2009 and then in June we had our 1st consultation with CNY Fertility Center in Rochester. The first thing they recommended to us was doing a laparoscopy to check for endometriosis. I had the surgery a few months later and Stage 2 endo was found. It was removed and we were now starting with a clean slate :) We tried again for 4 months on our own and still nothing happened. I was then at the end of my rope. In December of 2009 I called CNY Fertility again and had a minor breakdown on the phone. I felt horrible for the nurse that was speaking with me because I was just crying uncontrollably because I didnt know what else to do. Here it was now 2 years later and we still weren't pregnant. We made an appointment to come in and start the process of doing another IUI with injectables. We did another cycle, and it was another negative. I was so frustrated at this point. I thought with having the surgery for the endo, it would have improved our chances. We decided to give another IUI a shot before looking at other options. We did all the shots and ultrasounds, and just before the IUI was to be scheduled, we found out my levels were too high to move forward and it was cancelled. Dr. Cain had told me that if we were doing an IVF cycle, my levels would have been perfect to move forward. She urged me to consider IVF, seeing how I had the perfect levels for it. This was such a big decision for me to just make right then, so I told her I would talk with my husband and check with our insurance and let her know. My husband agreed that it was the right option for us, so we checked with our insurance and to our surprise, it was covered! so we decided the next month we would start the IVF process. I was so scared, for some reason this just seemed so big for me. we began the process in March of 2010. We retrieved 10 eggs and all 10 were fertilized using ICSI. On the day of transfer, they picked out 2 embryos to transfer and both were transferred successfully. we waited the week and a half that seemed to drag on FOREVER :) I had a blood test scheduled for Monday the 31st, but of course couldnt wait until then to test. I took a pregnancy test on Saturday the 29th and it was positive!! I had NEVER seen a positive test in the 2 1/2 years we had been trying. It was such a beautiful sight to see :) Monday came and we also had a positive blood test! WE WERE FINALLY PREGNANT! Advance 9 months, and Stella Grace arrived on 11/16/10 at 9:38pm after about 12 hours of labor. She weighed 7lbs 9oz and was 20.5 inches long. she was also 3 weeks early. We are so happy to have her in our lives and are so thankful to Dr. Rob and his staff at CNY Fertility Center for helping us achieve our dream of becoming parents. There is nothing like it in the world. ~~ Kara's Story
