Hi! My name is Lisa Stack, and I’m the CNY Fertility Support Coordinator. Today, Teah is going to teach us how to inject HCG.
Teah: Today is HCG instruction for your trigger shot. Before retrieval, before IUI, this is a trigger shot of HCG. Now, we’ll start with our HCG vial of powder and water and then we have our syringe with a 22-gauge needle and then we have a 27-gauge needle. So, we’ll start by cleaning off the tops of both bottles. Then we’re going to use our syringe with the 22-gauge needle to draw up the water. Now, for trigger shot, you’ll only use one ml or one cc (same thing) of water. So, I draw up the air first, and then I’m going to draw one ml of water.
If you get a bunch of air bubbles, it’s OK to over-draw and push them out, just like I just did and start like that. OK, so I have one ml of water, the top of the syringe lines up with the one, and I’m going to inject this one ml of water into the powder and it dissolves right away. You can use your needle to kind of mix it around. Once it’s dissolved, you’re going to take and draw up all of the water and powder mixture. You’re going to want to keep your needle nice and low because it is such a long needle, you have to stay under the water. You’ll empty this bottle out completely and you’ll have to keep pulling your needle down until you get all of it.
OK, so right now my bottle is empty and I drew an air bubble. So I’m going to cap this needle, and take it off, and then I’m going to put the small needle, the 27-gauge needle on for giving my injection. Now, some of you might have a 25-gauge needle, but it’s OK to have the 25-gauge needle as well, both work. I’m going to get rid of this air, and then flick out any little extra air bubbles that you may see, and then you’re ready to go.
