How Much Does IVF Cost in Washington State

If you’re considering IVF in Washington, understanding the full range of potential costs is a key part of preparing for treatment.

From the base cost of a single IVF cycle to optional services that can add thousands to your total, having a clear sense of what to expect financially can help you choose the best clinic for your needs.

In this guide, we’ll break down the typical cost of IVF in Washington, detail common add-ons,  and explore how traveling out of state may offer access to high-quality fertility care at a more affordable price.

What Affects the Cost of IVF in Washington State

In Washington, the cost of a single IVF cycle, including standard fertility medications, generally ranges from $15,000 to $25,000.

One key reason for this price difference is that clinics often charge very different rates for the same procedures. For example, egg retrieval, embryo culture, or ICSI might cost significantly more at one clinic than another, even though the services themselves are nearly identical.

Your specific treatment plan also affects the final cost. Add-ons such as frozen embryo transfer (FET), preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), and storage of eggs or embryos can add $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on your medical needs.

To avoid unexpected expenses, always ask for a detailed, itemized cost breakdown before beginning treatment.

What’s Included in a Typical IVF Cycle in Washington State

If you’re planning IVF in Washington, it’s helpful to understand what’s typically involved in a standard cycle. While exact protocols vary by clinic and patient, most IVF cycles include the following steps:

  • Monitoring Appointments: You’ll have several ultrasounds and blood tests during ovarian stimulation to track follicle growth and hormone levels. This information helps your provider adjust medications for the best possible response.
  • Egg Retrieval: Performed as a brief outpatient procedure under light sedation, egg retrieval involves collecting mature eggs directly from the ovaries. It is usually done at your fertility clinic.
  • Fertilization: After retrieval, eggs are fertilized in the lab using either conventional IVF or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), a method commonly used when male factor infertility is present.
  • Embryo Development: Once fertilized, embryos are monitored for several days to assess their development. The best-quality embryos are chosen for transfer or freezing.
  • Embryo Transfer: Depending on your treatment plan, this may involve a fresh transfer soon after retrieval or a frozen embryo transfer (FET) during a later cycle.
  • Fertility Medications: Medications are essential for stimulating the ovaries and supporting implantation. These are usually billed separately and can cost between $2,000 and $7,000 per cycle, depending on your specific needs.

Additional IVF Costs to Know About in Washington State

While the base cost of IVF in Washington covers the core treatment steps, many patients find that additional services can increase the total cost by $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on their specific medical needs and preferences.

Here are some of the most common add-ons:

  • Fertility Medications: Though often billed separately, these are a critical part of ovarian stimulation. In Washington, expect to pay $2,000 to $8,000 per cycle, depending on your dosage and medication protocol.
  • Embryo or Egg Freezing and Storage: Freezing surplus embryos or eggs typically costs between $600 and $1,000 for the initial freezing, with additional annual storage fees thereafter.
  • Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET): If you use frozen embryos in a future cycle, you’ll need a separate FET procedure, which generally costs around $4,000, though this varies by clinic.
  • Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT): PGT is used to screen embryos for chromosomal issues and usually costs about $4,500. Since testing requires freezing the embryos after biopsy, you’ll also need a follow-up FET cycle.
  • Donor Eggs: Donor egg IVF pricing varies widely. Some lower-cost options begin around $14,000, while many clinics in Washington charge $25,000 to $40,000, depending on what’s included in the package.
  • Implantation and Immune Support Treatments: Additional support therapies—such as intralipid infusions, low-dose naltrexone, or IVIG—can add another $500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the type and duration of treatment.

Age and Number of IVF Cycles

Many patients need more than one IVF cycle to achieve success. National data shows that women under 35 may see live birth rates close to 50 percent per cycle, while the average across all age groups is closer to 25 percent.

For women over 40, egg quality tends to decline significantly, making it harder to conceive. This often leads to the need for multiple IVF cycles, consideration of PGT, or even donor egg IVF to improve the chances of a healthy pregnancy.

Affordable IVF Options at CNY Fertility for Washington State Residents

If you live in Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma, or anywhere else in Washington and face high IVF costs, traveling to CNY Fertility may be a practical and budget-friendly alternative.

Many Washington patients choose to complete their monitoring locally, then travel to a CNY Fertility clinic for the key procedures—egg retrieval and embryo transfer

CNY Fertility offers all-inclusive IVF packages starting at $5,769, including standard fertility medications. A significant cost advantage compared to many clinics in Washington State.

What’s Included in CNY’s IVF Package

  • Egg Retrieval with Anesthesia: A gentle outpatient procedure to collect mature eggs.
  • ICSI Fertilization: A lab method in which a single sperm is injected into each egg.
  • Embryo Culture and Monitoring: Embryos are closely monitored in a state-of-the-art lab to assess growth and quality.
  • Assisted Hatching: A technique that gently thins the outer shell of the embryo to support successful implantation.
  • Fresh Embryo Transfer: One or more healthy embryos are transferred into the uterus a few days after fertilization.
  • Cryopreservation: Any remaining high-quality embryos can be frozen and stored for future use.
  • Standard Medication Protocol: Includes essential medications used for ovarian stimulation and egg development.

Unlike clinics that charge extra for procedures like ICSI, assisted hatching, or embryo freezing, CNY includes these services in the base package, helping you avoid unexpected costs.

Does Insurance Cover IVF in Washington State?

As of May 2025, Washington State does not require insurance companies to cover in vitro fertilization (IVF) or other fertility treatments. However, legislation is in progress to change that.

In 2023, lawmakers introduced Senate Bill 5204, the Washington State Building Families Act. If passed, it would require large group health plans issued or renewed after January 1, 2025, to cover infertility diagnosis, treatment, and fertility preservation. The proposed benefits include up to four egg retrievals and unlimited embryo transfers, based on American Society for Reproductive Medicine guidelines.

Currently, without a state mandate, coverage varies by insurance provider and plan. Some may include diagnostics or IUI, but IVF is often excluded or limited. Self-insured employer plans are typically exempt from state-level requirements, even if new laws take effect.

If you’re considering IVF or other fertility care, review your insurance policy or speak with your provider to understand what is and isn’t covered.

IVF Costs in Washington State: What You Should Know

In Washington State, the cost of a single IVF cycle typically ranges from $15,000 to $25,000, including standard fertility medications.

Your total cost will depend on several factors, including the clinic you choose, your individual treatment plan, and whether you opt for additional services like embryo freezing, frozen embryo transfer (FET), or preimplantation genetic testing (PGT).

If affordability is a concern, it may be worth exploring out-of-state options. CNY Fertility offers all-inclusive IVF packages starting at $5,769, with standard medications included—making it a more cost-effective choice for many Washington residents.
