What is FemaSeed?

FemaSeed is a new fertility treatment that helps place sperm directly into the fallopian tube containing the ovulated egg. Using balloon technology, the device gently isolates the tube opening and guides the sperm to the right spot. This IUI alternative may improve the chance of conception by ensuring sperm reaches the egg more effectively. We’ll tailor the treatment based on your ovulation cycle and anatomy to give you the best chance of success.

How is the FemaSeed Different Than IUI

The standard medical artificial insemination, Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), involves placing sperm into the uterine cavity, where the sperm is free to swim to both fallopian tubes, including the tube that does not have an ovulated egg. Alternatively, FemaSeed cuts the journey for the sperm drastically by depositing the sperm into the fallopian tube, where the egg has been ovulated, potentially improving the chance of conception.

Why FemaSeed Makes Sense and for Whom

Fertilization occurs in the fallopian tube, and the fertilized embryo then travels to the uterus to implant. By placing sperm closer to the egg, FemaSeed may increase the chance of conception. FemaSeed is ideal for most patients seeking insemination, including those with low sperm count, one functioning fallopian tube, or those using donor sperm (e.g., same-sex couples, single women, etc.).

  • Effectiveness

1 in 4 women became pregnant in a clinical trial performed by FemaSeed demonstrating it may be more effective than IUI for low male sperm count.

  • Safety

As safe as IUI, less risks than IVF (no surgery, no egg retrieval, no injections). A quick office-based procedure.

  • Affordability

Less expensive than IVF. No on-going costs (no egg/embryo storage).

  • Enhanced Fertilization

Places sperm where it needs to go -directly in the fallopian tube containing the ovulated egg.

How Does FemaSeed Work?

Please note CNY does not keep the FemaSeed device in stock and MUST BE ORDERED AND PAID FOR PRIOR TO THE INITIATION OF YOUR TREATMENT CYCLE.

  • Step 1

Medications, Monitoring, & Locating the Egg with Ultrasound

The process begins similarly to an IUI, often with oral medications and routine monitoring visits where bloodwork and a gentle transvaginal ultrasound are performed by your healthcare provider. This imaging technique allows them to visualize your ovaries and uterus in real-time. The goal is to accurately identify the position and development of a mature egg, ensuring optimal timing and placement for the treatment. This step is crucial to maximize the chances of fertilization by delivering sperm to the right location.

  • Step 2

    Placement of FemaSeed Device

Once the egg’s location and the time of ovulation are confirmed, the FemaSeed device is carefully inserted into your uterus. Using ultrasound guidance, a thin, flexible catheter is gently advanced and positioned close to the opening of your fallopian tube. This precise placement ensures the sperm are delivered as close as possible to the egg, enhancing the likelihood of natural conception.

  • Step 3

    Targeted Sperm Delivery

With the device in place, a specially prepared sperm sample is delivered directly into your fallopian tube through the catheter. This targeted delivery bypasses the cervix and uterine cavity, placing the sperm exactly where they need to be to meet the egg.

  • Step 4

    Completion of the Procedure

After the sperm is placed, the FemaSeed device is gently removed from your body. The sperm remains in your fallopian tube, in close proximity to your egg, where natural fertilization can now take place. This minimally invasive procedure requires no anesthesia and is completed in a short outpatient visit, offering a comfortable and effective fertility option.
