Hot Dog!
Did you know that July is National Hot dog month? It sure is and on average American consumes 20 billon hot dogs a year, working out to about 70 dogs per person a year.
I wonder if July carries the honor because of the 4th of July and all the hot dogs that are eaten on that day or weekend.  I googled the National Hot Dog Month and came across the origin of the hot dog on Wikipedia.
“Others have supposedly invented the hot dog. The idea of a hot dog on a bun is ascribed to the wife of a German named Antonoine Feuchtwanger, who sold hot dogs on the streets of St. Louis, Missouri, United States, in 1880, because his customers kept taking the white gloves handed to them for eating without burning their hands.[7] Anton Ludwig Feuchtwanger, a Bavarian sausage seller, is said to have served sausages in rolls at the World’s Fair–either the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago or the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St Louis[8]–again allegedly because the white gloves he gave to customers so that they could eat his hot sausages in comfort began to disappear as souvenirs.

After reading this information what I was surprised about was that at one time the “hot dog” was considered a treat or delicacy eaten with white gloves to enhance the experience.
So why would the July support article be about hot dogs?
Here’s the connection to the fertility journey.  At one time the act of creating your family was thought of as a delicate moment between two people in love and having an intimate moment alone and then things changed.  Events that could create negative associations came in which might of caused family creation moment to become an entirely new experience.
The other day I was talking to a woman who was just gearing up to begin her first IVF cycle and was voicing the sentiment of how creating her family was a private act and now so out in the open.
So how can you bring back the sentiment of treating the act of creating your family with white gloves?  By creating a ritual of celebration.  The intimate act of intercourse is the celebration between two souls.  The mechanics of bringing together the sperm and egg are now shifted through assisted reproductive technology through IUI or IVF but the intimacy can be creating through another moment between you and your spouse.
I remember my doctor walking into the room prior to an IUI and dimming the lights, turning up the music and we all took a moment to bring reverence to the procedure.  It wasn’t the normal intimate moment between two people but the “new normal” of taking a moment and calling in reverence and gratitude created intimacy.
Also, creating a system of treating each other with white gloves is one small step in creating an intimate as you move through the act of creation.
So, I leave you with an assignmentwhat is one thing that you need from your partner or your self to make you feel delicate and experience the white glove treatment?
