Video: Fertility Journey-Celebrating Loving Relationships Every Day
Posted by: Editor on Feb 21, 2012 in News

Hi! My name is Lisa Stack, and I’m the CNY Fertility Support Coordinator. This past week during my Words of Support and Encouragement article, I shared some thoughts on Valentine’s Day. While you’re probably busy shopping and celebrating Valentine’s Day with each other if you have a partner or with your loved ones, you probably saw that you were inundated with red, pink, and white decorations, hearts and balloons, and maybe some over-the-top gifts.

I’d like to challenge you to extend your celebration beyond just a couple times a year—your anniversary, birthdays, or Valentine’s Day and just start appreciating each other and celebrating each other every day. if you do have a partner on this journey, it is very important for you to feel connected, for you to feel like you have someone on your side, and someone that you can share your concerns and hopes, and ups and downs with—communication is a huge part of that. While beautiful gifts may remind us of our affection and love a couple of days throughout the year; having to sustained, lasting, and meaningful communication is often much more fruitful and much more satisfying.

If you haven’t been communicating really well or haven’t been connecting as well as you’d like to be it may take a little bit of time for it to feel comfortable again and for it to feel like it’s part of your daily practice but that’s OK. It takes a little bit of time and it becomes part of your routine and feels natural, and you don’t even have to think about it anymore. In the article I left a couple of suggestions, and I’d like to cover just a few of them now. I’d like you to try to come up with some of your own as well. Starting out slow is a great idea. Just saying I love you every day is maybe something that you’ve fallen out of the habit of doing. Saying I really appreciate when you do this for me when you’ve made a cup of coffee for me in the morning- it really helps to get my day started. Or, I really appreciate it when you bring the paper in on Sundays. Little things like that, letting your partner know that you recognize the little acts that they may not even notice that they’re doing but they’re important to you and they let you know that you’re cared for. Also, sending a quick note to each other throughout the day just saying I love you. I can’t wait to see you later. We’re having a great dinner tonight. Letting your partner know that you’re thinking of them during the day. If you keep up with this, they will catch on and they’ll start reciprocating. You’ll start to connect a lot more and they’ll feel a great connection throughout the year, not just on a couple of days throughout the year.
