Video: How Sleep Quality Can Affect Your Fertility
Posted by: Editor on Jun 23, 2011 in News

Hi!  My name is Lisa Stack, and I’m the CNY Fertility Support Coordinator.  On our website recently, we had a great article about the importance of sleep while trying to conceive.  In the Fertility & Sterility journal, there have been many articles over the past couple of years indicating that often interrupted sleep and poor sleep results in lower fertility.  That is because during the critical sleep hours around 12:00-4:00, while the night is darkest, and you should be peacefully sleeping, the body is actively working.  It’s working on its melatonin levels and on testosterone production, and ovulation.  You really need to give your body this time to rest.  If maybe your sleep is very irregular, you may work night shifts, you may just have difficulty sleeping in general; this can lower your fertility.  Many patients who have often failed IVF cycles, the fertility and sterility magazine has found that they have lower levels of melatonin.

You may benefit from supplementing your melatonin, and also increasing your sleep, and increasing your ability to sleep.  I will upload a quick video about some great benefits and some great sleep tips; but we really want to make you aware that it is important for you to get good sleep, get good quality sleep.  Really create the environment that is optimal for your sleeping.  Remember, that it is integral to your fertility and integral to your whole body health and wellness.

If you’d like any tips or any help with your sleeping, or if you’re having a really challenging time, please let us know.  Maybe we can help you with some dietary recommendations because that often keeps people up at night.  If not, we can also help you relax over at CNY Healing Arts Center because it is so important for you to take care of your entire body and sleep is such an integral part.  Take a look for our video for good sleep tips to keep you healthy and keep you fertile.  Let us know if you have any questions.  Take a look at that article.  It’s interesting about the circadian rhythm and how it impacts our body and how it impacts our fertility.  It’s definitely something to keep in mind when you are trying to conceive and working towards that family that you’ve always wanted to create.  Have a good week!
